Grub St: Who? What? Why? When?
Right! I’m back, or more accurately, we’re back.
From this day forth, The Magazine Diaries is officially the companion newsletter to The Grub Street Journal. Plus, I’ll be joined here by the irrepressible Joanna Cummings.
First: welcome to all our new subscribers. Our list doubled in the week following the announcement of The Grub Street Journal launch. We’re delighted you could join us.
And a MASSIVE SHOUT OUT to you if you’ve been here from the very beginning; there will be no ‘brand new customers only’ nonsense round these parts. We❤️you!
And now to the meat: the who, what, why and when of The Grub Street Journal.
Who?
Me and Joanna with designer Nic. We’re all magazine people, both for work and for pleasure. Much more about each of us in upcoming newsletters.
What?
A magazine for people who make magazines. Brutally honest but relentlessly optimistic, our quarterly print magazine will look for answers to the biggest questions in modern magazine publishing. Challenging the industry to change where it needs to, we'll be having some fun along the way too.
Why?
Well they do say you should create the magazine you want to read. Grub Street is the type of magazine we’d be all over – and we think other magazine people will be all over it too.
When?
Funny you should ask! We’re opening pre-orders for the ‘Don Quixote Issue’ next week, on Wednesday 1st March. Keep an eye open for an email with a link to our freshly minted shop, or just bounce over to the Grub Street Journal website on Wednesday.
Clearly any dreams we had of this newsletter being less frequent than it used to be were short lived. We’re coming back on a weekly schedule, baby.
Buckle up, it’s going to be a blast!
As a special treat for this newsletter, we’re introducing the full ‘Magazine Songs’ playlist. The first song is just for you, ‘You’re Gorgeous’ by Babybird, because you are. It’s that simple.
Checkout the full hour-and-a-half of magazine songs on the playlist while you’re waiting for pre-orders to open on Wednesday 1st March.
Thanks for reading
Seriously, thank you so much for being here. It means the world.
If you know anyone that would be interested in what we’re doing, please hit the share button. We want everyone that makes magazines to be part of this mad ride.
